hometown forecast. good morning. >> good morning, well, if you're planning on this morning taking the douglas bridge, please be aware that right now the drawbridge is being raised and your travel lanes are going to be blocked this morning for about 20 minutes to allow a vessel to pass, but also for some bridge maintenance. let's check on the water main break if you're traveling along 202 at 214. water main break is there. crews are repairing it. but the good news is that work is confined to your shoulder lane, so your travel lanes are open. i just want to give you a heads up in case other drivers are slowing down to take a look. let's head over to the rails. so much better so far. metro, marc, vre running on schedule. your commute should run more smoothly if you take metro's red line to work. the power problems that caused major head aches yesterday morning have been fixed. the problems affected several parts of the red line. the train was even stranded on the tracks.
5:03 am
metro says it's looking into what caused those issues. vre trains are also running as schedule right now. last night, someone found remains near the track. megan mcgrath is there now. good morning. >>. >> reporter: good morning. the good news for vre riders is that service is back to normal. last night this grizzly discovery was made just a little bit before 6:00 p.m. someone found a package with remains on the tracks. service was stopped south of burke. there were about 1,700 customers on four trains that were impacted. some of them stranded for well over an hour, two hours even. now, what was this body part? what were the remains found inside this package? a vre spokesperson says that it is not a head, but they will not elaborate beyond that. the medical examiner is working to identify the remains to see if they are human or not.
5:04 am
but certainly, a grim discovery. train traffic south of burke was shut down as police set up a crime scene and began their investigation. that left a lot of people stranded. vre scrambled some buses out to try to get the people out of the area. still a major inconvenience for thousands of people. again, the good news here is that service is back to normal this morning, but of course, the investigation continues. and they're still trying to figure out exactly what these remains were. reporting live in manassas, megan mcgrath. new this morning, hundreds of ketering residents are without water because of a water main break. crews are in the 600 block of largo road. that's 24-inch main and some 260 homes have no water right now. the commission now says that the work will likely last into the afternoon. they plan to set up a water station for residents in that

5:06 am
univision today in florida, but he may also face some tough questions about his own economic vision. nbc news has obtained a 1998 video that republicans now plan to use of then state senator barack obama talking about how to make government more efficient. >> i think the trick is figuring out how do we structure government systems that pool resources and hence facilitate some redistribution, because i actually believe in redistribution, at least at a certain level, to make sure that everybody's got a shot. >> mitt romney is already striking out at those comments saying that redistribution of wealth would hurt american entrepreneurship and job creation. the bat over the old videos comes as the president is seeing his job approval jump to its highest level in five months. the associated press gfk poll shows 56% of votes approve of the job is doing. that is the best number since
5:07 am
just after the death of osama bin laden in may of 2011. but the race for the white house is still a statistical dead heat with the president and mitt romney only separated by one percentage point. 47% to 46%. it was taken before the hidden camera video of mitt romney surfaced. >> tim kaine may be gaining the upper hand, he leads george allen by eight points in the latest "washington post" poll. this is the first time the democrat has led in a "washington post" survey. he also leads the republican allen in a quinnipiac university poll. both men are looking to succeed democrat jim webb. tim kaine and george allen square off live today at noon right here on nbc 4. david gregory of "meet the press" will moderate a debate this afternoon. julie carey and i will be on the panel. the fairfax county chamber of commerce co-sponsoring this debate. you can watch it live. why a notebook could be the key to the colorado movie
